On Saturday, HAOK Mladost ZAGREB booked the last ticket for the Final Four tournament of the men’s MEVZA League, celebrating an impressive 3-1 (25-20, 25-16, 23-25, 25-10) win over CEV Champions League participants OK Merkur MARIBOR on home soil.
As a result, Croatia’s reigning national champions moved up to third in the current standing, overtaking OK Calcit KAMNIK only because of a slightly better set ratio. Both teams ended the regular season on 31 points from a 11-5 win-loss record. Boris Busa was the most prolific player for the hosts with 25 points, as MARIBOR’s Ziga Donik managed to put 13 to his name.
“Congratulations to my players on that very important win. We made it to the Final Four, that is all it was about today,” ZAGREB’s head coach Radovan Gacic was satisfied with the performance of his team.
In the last regular season’s match, Final Four hosts SK Zadruga AICH/DOB will be facing defending champions ACH Volley LJUBLJANA at the JUFA-Arena on Monday evening. This season’s climax will take place next weekend in Bleiburg.
