The women’s and men’s sides initially compete in a double round robin format. After the completion of main rounds, the MEVZA League will be reaching its climax with the Final Four tournaments (hosts will be announced later this year).
Last season the Women’s MEVZA League was cancelled due to the pandemic. The men’s competition, on the other hand, could take place. The defending champions are ACH Volley LJUBLJANA. The Slovenian side won the Final Four tournament 2021 at Zwettl edging their national rivals OK Merkur MARIBOR and OK Calcit KAMNIK.
Karl Hanzl, MEVZA president: “I am glad that we managed to hold the men’s competition last season despite the impact of the pandemic. I am particularly pleased that there will be another women’s competition in the upcoming season after a year’s break. This time Slovakia (men) and Hungary (women) are making their comeback in the MEVZA League. Therefore, sides from four countries will compete in both the men’s and women’s leagues. I am really looking forward to the show of strength between these teams. We will broadcast all matches via livestream again. We are also starting this season as an experiment with Fantasy Volleyball in order to generate additional attention from the fans.”
