CEV, Luxembourg. The main European volleyball competition, once again, meets the expectations. Great and spectacular plays proposed by all the teams involved in the “bio-bubbles” in Italy, Turkey, Poland, Germany and France.

WOMEN
The first match of the day was a fiery challenge, till the very last ball, between Dinamo MOSCOW and Allian MTV STUTTGART, competing in Pool D. Both teams came from two tough matches that in the first day of competition have committed them up to the tie-break. Krystal Rivers, the American opposite of the German team, won the direct comparison with the Russian Nataliya Goncharova (16 points) and also has been awarded as MVP by closing the match with 25 points of which 22 were winning spikes.
Second consecutive win for A. Carraro Imoco CONEGLIANO in Pool B. The host team beat in 64’ VB NANTES by 0-3. Particular match for the French Lucille Gicquel, ex-Nantes, deployed in place of Paola Egonu in the second half of the third set. The Italian opposite ended the match with 83% efficiency in attack, 20 points and the title of MVP.
Eczacibasi VitrA ISTANBUL returned to the three-point victory, finding the trump card in Chiaka Ogbogu’s block-instinct and beating Lokomotiv Kaliningrad Region (17-25, 22-25, 22-25). Good performance also by Tijana Boskovic (13/27 winning attacks).
Calcit Volley KAMNIK tries to surprise Fenerbahçe Opet ISTANBUL in Pool B, by winning the second set and fighting till 26-24 third. Nothing to do for the Slovenian team who showed great courage in facing a top team like Fenerbahçe.
MEN
Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA continue their winning streak defeating TOURS VB in straight sets in the first tournament of the CEV Champions League Volley – Men Pool B. The reigning champions with unstoppable Osmany Juantorena who stole the show tonight earned the second win on court and complete the event with a perfect record of 3 wins and 9 points.
Zenit KAZAN move to the top of Pool C, after winning against the hosting team BERLIN Recycling Volleys in three sets. After a strong opening from the hosts, the Russian team slowly turned the odds in their favour, keeping that level throughout the rest of the match. All three spikers from KAZAN – Maxim Mikhailov, Earvin Ngapeth and Bartosz Bednorz – were the top three scorers of the match, scoring 14, 13 and 12 points respectively. Both KAZAN and BERLIN have six points in the Pool C after second day of the competition in Germany.
The Polish teams celebrated with straight-set victories on the second competition day of Pool A. PGE Skra Belchatow found the perfect way for a rebound after losing their first match on Tuesday in straight sets, and hammered out an emphatic 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-16) shutout of Belgium’s Lindemans Aalst on Wednesday. Tournament hosts Grupa Azoty Kedzierzyn-Kozle cruised to their second shutout by dominating over Turkey’s Fenerbahce HDI Istanbul on the way to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-13) victory.
