During the times, when all Volleyball competitions are restricted due to the Covid-19 limitations, a few MEVZA teams have found themselves in an online Fantasy Beach Open, where a prize money of min.1,000 EUR will be donated to a charity project of the tournaments winners preference.
A beach volleyball tour operator Volleytours organized a 16 team bracket per gender of well known beach volleyball teams that will face each other in a single elimination format on their social media platforms. Meaning, every match is posted in a story on Volleytours’ Facebook and Instagram, and the fans get to decide the team that advances and eventually wins the tournament.

The first round of competition is already active and so are the first MEVZA teams. On the women’s side, first such match-up is between the Austrian top team Schutzenhofer/Plesiutschnig and the Latvians Graudina/Kravcenoka. Meanwhile on the men’s side, another Austrian team Dressler/Huber is competing against Dalhausser/Lucena from the United States, while the Slovenian duo Pokeršnik/Zemljak is facing the Italians Carambula/Rossi.
Today at 17h the next two MEVZA teams will also make their first appearance in the online “battle”. On the women’s side Hermannova/Slukova from the Czech Republic and Schnetzer/Petutschnig for Austria on the men’s side.

The Fantasy Beach Open might be first of the kind in the volleyball family of sports. More known versions are the fantasy leagues from American Football, Basketball and Football/Soccer to name just few of probably most popular ones.
