In the men’s MEVZA League, last season’s silver-medallists SK Zadruga AICH/DOB secured a 3-1 (25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 26-24) away win at OK Merkur MARIBOR to improve their win-loss record to 5-5. “We did not play well, but of course I am happy, that we emerged victorious in the end. That’s what it’s all about,” AICH/DOB head coach Matjaz Hafner said. Max Landfahrer top scored for the winning team with 20 points, while Alan Kosenina delivered the best performance for the home side with 16 points.
The victory takes Austria’s reigning national champions to the third place in the current standing on 17 points. As a result, AICH/DOB will have the opportunity to clinch the second spot on Saturday night, when they welcome Calcit Volley KAMNIK. The Slovenians are two points ahead of AICH/DOB and the closest pursuers of the confident table leaders ACH Volley LJUBLJANA.
Also on Saturday, Slovenia’s dominant team for many years and defending MEVZA League champions ACH Volley will face Mladost Ribola KASTELA (CRO), while bottom of the table Mladost BRCKO (BIH) will welcome fourth-placed Mladost ZAGREB (CRO). The battle for the Final Four spots has already reached its decisive stage, that much is certain!
The women’s MEVZA League is going to continue on Saturday with the Slovenian derby featuring Final Four hosts GEN-I Volley NOVA GORICA and the leaders in the current standing, Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR.
