Due to organizational issues this year’s MEVZA Cup Women title will be given after just a final match between the two best clubs after the main stage. Home team from VK UP Olomouc is facing Nova KBM Branik Maribor this afternoon in Olomouc.
“It have been very busy days, due to the withdrawal of Swietelsky Békéscsabai RSE we had to change the organizational base for the final four. The last compromise possible, accorded with the teams and the MEVZA board members, was to play just the final between top two clubs”, MEVZA president Karl Hanzl said. Both teams in the final finished the main stage with 13 points, Maribor in the lead with 5 wins and only one lost match. The final will be shown live on laola-TV, a match at eye level is expected.
The changes in the final phase – from the Final Four to a Final Match – was necessary, because third ranked team from Bekecsabai took back their participation for the final tournament in Olomouc. While the Hungarians 14 days ago published that they will do everything to keep the title in Hungary three days before the Final Four they withdrew their participation. “Our mission is always to keep the sport itself in our focus. Unfortunately, we must note that this may not be the case for all for the whole season”, Mr. Hanzl explained.
