Defending champions ACH Volley LJUBLJANA (SLO) went as the heavy favourites into the MEVZA League clash with SK Zadruga AICH/DOB (AUT) contested on Thursday night. The ‘Orange Dragons’ lived up to the role, and they needed just 71 minutes to celebrate a clean sweep (25-20, 25-22, 25-20) of their opponents on home soil.
With this victory, ACH Volley LJUBLJANA have increased their tally to 24 points resulting from eight wins and two losses. Therefore, the Slovenian multiple champions have a real shot at the top spot of the final standing. They are sitting in third place in the current tables with two more matches remaining, while OK Calcit KAMNIK (SLO) still lead the way on 25 points. For SK Zadruga AICH/DOB, on the other hand, it was already the last matchup in the main round, which they finish in fourth place on a 6-6 win-loss record.
ACH Volley’s Bozidar Vucicevic top scored with 16 points, as Sergej Drobnic registered 10 for AICH/DOB. The match stats: attack 57% vs 40%, aces 8 vs 3, winning blocks 3 vs 7, reception 67% vs 41% and opponent errors 12 vs 24.
Alongside titleholders ACH Volley LJUBLJANA and OK Calcit KAMNIK, OK Merkur MARIBOR (SLO) as well as hosts and last year’s bronze medallists Union Raiffeisen WALDVIERTEL (AUT) have qualified for the Final Four tournament. The grand finale will take place on February 27-28 at the Zwettl sports hall for the second consecutive year.
