Riga, Latvia. The campaign of the young players representing RIGAS Volejbola Skola in the 2021 edition of the women’s CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup ended on Thursday night as the hosts suffered a second straight loss at the hands of TJ OSTRAVA of the Czech Republic. The Czech team has qualified for the 8th Finals of the competition where they will be playing against 1. MCM-Diamant KAPOSVAR of Hungary.
“Yesterday we played better than we did today,” said RIGAS head coach Andrejs Odinokovs, with reference to the previous fixture played on Wednesday. “In yesterday’s game, especially in sets 3 and 4, there were opportunities that we unfortunately did not use. The opponents were not ready for our game yesterday, but today they analysed it carefully. There was no attack from our side in today’s game, the opponents were waiting for us with their block well positioned and knocked out the reception. Our defence was bad too. We will continue to train, participate in the Baltic Cup, if the games take place, and prepare for the Latvian Cup,” he added.
TJ OSTRAVA broke away halfway through the first set and they slowly but surely extended their advantage to win the first set by 25-17. After trailing in the early stages of the second set, RIGAS Volejbola Skola cut their deficit to one point only at 14-15, but following a timeout, the Czechs resumed their race and doubled their lead in the match (25-17). At this stage, qualification for the next round was no longer at stake and TJ OSTRAVA comfortably sealed their victory with a comprehensive 25-16 win in the third set.
