As in the men’s MEVZA League, the Slovenian teams are dominating the women’s competition as well: Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR and Calcit Volley KAMNIK top the charts on 14 points and a 5-1 win-loss record each. On Saturday, Calcit Volley overpowered Mladost ZAGREB (CRO) in 128 minutes 3-2 (21-25, 25-27, 25-21, 25-13, 16-14). The hosts made a stunning comeback after a not too convincing start to the game. Calcit Volley’s Olivera Brulec Kostic delivered the best scoring performance with a total of 21 points. Mladost’s Valentina Vrbanc kept close with 20 points.
Gregor Rozman, coach of Calcit Volley: “I will not say that we need something like this quite often, but we secured an extremely important victory today. Even after losing the first two sets, my team believed in their abilities. Congratulations to all the players, they pulled themselves together in an impressive way after the previous defeat we had suffered at the hands of KASTELA and the weak start we showed today. I hope this win gives fresh impetus to my players for the very important matches lying ahead.”
