MARIBOR – To say goodbye to 2022, we saw a volleyball performance worthy of this level in Maribor. In a nearly two-hour-long treat, Slovakia’s Koamarno defeated team Merkur Maribor 3-2.
In the first three sets we saw a lot of even play and tense finishes in all sets. In the fourth set, the home team shone, especially on the opening shots and in the block, and won the set 25-15, which meant going into the fifth set. There we witnessed a real thriller, with the visitors leading 12-8. However, the resilient Maribor players did not give up and even had the final ball to win the game at 14-13. However, the guests managed to turn the match around and won the set 3-2.
The Slovak coach was visibly satisfied after the game: ‘We played a very intense game, also interesting for the spectators. We led in almost every set, but lacked some composure in the end of the set. I am happy for the victory and I congratulate Merkur Maribor for their hospitality and such a good performance.”
