On the first day they met the current number one in MEVZA, Slovenian champion ACH Volley Ljubljana. The Austrian underdog showed a passionate game against the Champions-League-Team from the Slovenian Capital, but didn’t manage to win a set. After 75 minutes, the league’s leaders won in three sets (17-25, 15-25, 15-25)
“Unfortunately we have not shown our best today. For sure Ljubljana is the top team of MEVZA, but I expect that we are ready to take the fight”, said Andrej Urnaut, coach of VCA Amstetten NÖ.
“It was my first experience to play such a world-class-team like Ljubljana. It was incredible what kind of volleyball they play. We are in MEVZA to learn and to gain experience, so that’s why it was good to play against them today”, said Michael Czerwinski, player of VCA Amstetten NÖ after the game.
“We did quite okay this season. We only lost two games in the Champions League so far, won all the games in MEVZA and in Slovenia. We always want to win, so we enter every match with full focus”, said Radovan Gacic, coach of ACH Volley Ljubljana.
“We have dominated the game and that was our plan. We had a good service strategy and read Amstettens game very well. We are highly motivated for tomorrow, where we want to continue our streak”, said Nikola Gjorgiev, player of ACH Volley Ljubljana.
