Kaposvár, Hungary. The city of Kaposvár, Hungary, will host on Wednesday and Thursday one of the four ‘bio-secure bubble tournaments’ scheduled for the 8th Finals and quarterfinals of the women’s CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup 2021.
After a training day on Tuesday, December 8, two 8th Final matches will be taking place the following day in the imposing and modern Kaposvár Arena, whose construction ended in the spring of 2019.
The matchup featuring hosts 1. MCM-Diamant KAPOSVAR and the Czechs of TJ OSTRAVA, who currently sit in third place in their national league, will start at 5 pm. Three hours later, VP UKF NITRA of Slovakia and North Macedonia’s OK Vardar Ženi 2019 SKOPJE will contest the other 8th Final match.
The two winning teams will be locking horns on Thursday in a winner-takes-all quarterfinal match starting at 4 pm.
The host club from Kaposvár made its debut on the international stage last year, losing to Turkey’s standout THY ISTANBUL, which reached the semis of the competition before the total shutdown caused by the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. The hosts of this ‘bubble’ featured prominently in the prematurely ended 2019/2020 season as well, thus securing their right to participate in this year’s Challenge Cup.
