Croatia’s reigning national champions HAOK Mladost ZAGREB secured their ninth MEVZA League win this season, celebrating a clean sweep (25-22, 25-19, 25-11) at TJ Spartak MYJAVA on Tuesday.

As a result, head coach Radovan Gacic’s team increased its points to 25 from 14 matches. Furthermore, HAOK Mladost ZAGREB drew level with OK Calcit KAMNIK. These two sides are still fighting for the last spot in the Final Four tournament scheduled late February. The confident leaders in the current standing ACH Volley LJUBLJANA, second-placed OK Merkur MARIBOR and hosts SK Zadruga AICH/DOB are already confirmed participants in this MEVZA League season’s climax.
Martin Pipa, head coach TJ Spartak MYJAVA: “Our opponents were better in every aspect. We were also very weak on attack. I am very disappointed with my team’s performance.“
Radovan Gacic, head coach TJ Spartak ZAGEB: “We still have a chance to make it to the Final Four tournament, so we really wanted to win. I was a little bit scared before the match because we are knowing it is for no team easy to win at Spartak MYJAVA. Overall, I am very satisfied, especially our middle-blockers played really well today.”
On Wednesday, HAOK Mladost ZAGREB will be facing bottom of the table VBK Bratislava, while Union Raiffeisen WALDVIERTEL will be hosting OK Calcit KAMNIK and OK MERKUR MARIBOR will be locking horns with SK Zadruga AICH/DOB. “Although we are already qualified for the Final Four tournament, we definitely want to stay unbeaten on home soil and therefore we will try our best to record another three points”, OK MERKUR MARIBOR’s head coach Sebastijan Skorc said.
In the women’s competition, Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR will clash with OK Marina KASTELA on Wednesday. The hosts are still in the race for a Final Four spot.
