OK Merkur MARIBOR celebrated a hard-fought 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 28-26, 26-24) home win over Union Raiffeisen WALDVIERTEL on Monday night to cement the second place in the current MEVZA League standing now just three points behind defending champions and unbeaten competition leaders ACH Volley Ljubljana.
The “Nordmänner”, on the other hand, are still sitting in third place two points ahead of Final Four tournament hosts SK Zadruga AICH/DOB. Ahmed Ikhbayri was the player of the match after an impressive performance that saw him finishing on 35 points including two aces and three winning blocks. Daan Streutker was the top scorer for the away team with 19 points.

The men’s MEVZA League will continue on Wednesday, when ACH Volley LJUBLJANA will be hosting VKP BRATISLAVA. The women’s competition will be back in action on Thursday with the clash between VB NÖ SOKOL/POST and Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR.
