Defending champions and current table leaders ACH Volley LJUBLJANA extended their winning streak in the men’s MEVZA League as they returned to the court on Saturday evening. The ‘Orange Dragons’ came back from one set down to defeat HAOK Mladost ZAGREB 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 25-18, 25-16) on home soil.
Slovenia’s reigning national champions OK Merkur MARIBOR, on the other hand, secured three points for the standing as well, celebrating a clean sweep (25-20, 25-15, 25-18) of UVC Holding GRAZ. Both Slovenian teams increased their tally to 18 points – ACH Volley LJUBLJANA with a perfect 6-0 win-loss record, while OK Merkur MARIBOR have already played seven matches this season so far.
ACH Volley LJUBLJANA’s head coach Mladen Kašic: “In the opening set we did not put enough pressure with our serve and our block was not up to par. When we improved these two elements in the following sets, we turned the game around and deservedly picked up another three points for the standing.”
OK Merkur MARIBOR player Žiga Donik: “Unlike the previous matches, we started this one much better, playing well, being consistent in reception and putting pressure with the serve. The most important thing is that the three points stayed with us and I congratulate my teammates on their performance.”
