In the men’s MEVZA League, former champions SK Zadruga AICH/DOB and their Austrian compatriots UVC Holding GRAZ cruised to confident home wins on Saturday night.
The team from Carinthia celebrated a clean sweep (25-21, 25-16, 25-21) of competition rookies TJ Spartak MYJAVA of Slovakia. As a result, AICH/DOB increased their tally to nine points from a 3-1 win-loss record. Top scorers at the JUFA Arena in Bleiburg were Jani Jeliazkov and Erik Watzka on 23 and 11 points, respectively.
“It was a solid performance by our team and an important victory after two very disappointing losses in the MEVZA League and the Austrian Volley Cup. We were the much better team overall.” so AICH/DOB’s sports director Martin Micheu.
UVC Holding GRAZ clinched their first MEVZA League win this season, giving VKP BRATISLAVA no chance in an impressive 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-19) victory. Therefore, the Austrian reigning national champions moved up to sixth place in the table. Top scorers at the Raiffeisen Sportpark were Lorenz Rössl (12 points) and Adrian Van?o (10).

Like UVC Holding GRAZ, the Slovenian team now has four points to their credit, while the Croatian side dropped to the bottom of the table on two points. Top scorers of the match were Boris Buša for Mladost (17) and Miha Bregar for KAMNIK (22).
In the women’s competition, OK Calcit KAMNIK secured another three points by winning at Mladost ZAGREB in four sets (19-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-23). The team from Slovenia sits on top of the charts on 11 points with an immaculate 4-0 win-loss record. Mika Grbavica (14) and Mija Šiftar (19) top scored for Mladost and KAMNIK, respectively. Next Wednesday, OK Calcit KAMNIK will be hosting underdogs VB NÖ Sokol/Post of Austria.
The men’s MEVZA League will continue on Wednesday as well. SK Zadruga AICH/DOB will clash with Union Raiffeisen WALDVIERTEL in an exciting Austrian derby. The ‘Nordmänner’ are currently sitting in fourth place in the standing just behind their national rivals.
