In Sunday’s semi-final, the Czechs defeated the German pair Cinja Tillmann/Svenja Müller before they came up short in the gold medal match with Betsi Flint and Emily Day from the USA. The German team did not leave Brno empty-handed, since they edged the New Zealand rivals Alice Zeimann/Shaunna Marie Polley 2-0 (21-14, 22-20) in the bronze medal match.
In the morning semi-finals, the Czech pair Williams/Štochlová fought a thrilling battle with their German opponents, where the winners emerged at the end of two close sets (24-22, 23-21).

“We are very happy that we reached the final. When we saw the starting list, we probably never thought we would be one of the top two teams. It is a great success for us.”

The second final pair emerged after the duel between the American pair Flint/Day and the New Zealanders Zeimann/Polley. The Americans won the match 2-0 (21-16, 21-18) and later they repeated the same result in the gold medal match with the Czechs (21-13, 21-8).

“Unfortunately, our performance in the final was bad and this match did not work out for us at all. It is a bit of a bitter end to the tournament and right now we have mixed feelings but we won a silver medal, and that is definitely a great success.”
