Wagrain, Austria. Today the first weekend of the Snow Volleyball European Tour 2021 started in the evocative setting of Wagrain (AUT), accompanied by a pale, almost springlike sun. The 24 teams from all over Europe have finally started the season on the fresh snow of the Austrian venue.
For the men’s tournament, the sixteen registered teams were split into 4 pools of 4 teams. The first classified of each pool (Ukraine, Italy 1, Lithuania and Austria) will face tomorrow morning starting 10:20 CET the winning teams from the Round of 12 (respectively Slovenia, Germany 1, Russia and Italy 3) in the quarterfinals. The Austrians Florian Schnetzer, Moritz Kindl and Mathias Seiser made good on their role as favorites and secured the first spot in the quarterfinals.

The women’s tournament counted 8 teams at the start:
– Austria
– Czech Republic 1
– Czech Republic 2
– Hungary 1
– Hungary 2
– Italy
– Lithuania
– Turkey.
Tomorrow morning the seeding for the semifinals will be defined; Czech Republic 2 and Turkey await the winning teams between Hungary 1 vs Czech Republic 1 and Hungary 2 vs Austria.
The match between Czech Republic 2 and Hungary 1 valid for Round 1 was the longest match of the day, lasting 48 minutes and ending 2-1 (15-12, 14-16, 15-13) for the Czech team.
