In the last MEVZA League matchup before the Christmas break, OK Merkur MARIBOR celebrated an impressive 3-1 (25-21, 25-16, 16-25, 26-24) home win against defending champions ACH Volley LJUBLJANA in a Slovenian derby on Wednesday evening. As a result, the hosts top the current table after increasing their points to 20 on a 6-3 win-loss record, while ACH Volley dropped to second place. The titleholders suffered their second loss in eight MEVZA League matches they have contested this season so far.
Rok Mozic and Ahmed Ikhbayri top scored for the winning team with 22 and 20 points, respectively. ACH Volley’s Matej Kök managed to put 16 points to his name, while his teammates Bozidar Vucicevic and Amir Hossein Toukhteh scored 10 times each. Match stats: spikes 50 vs 45, aces 7 vs 7, winning blocks 11 vs 4 and opponent errors 24 vs 30.
The MEVZA League is going to resume on January 13, when bottom of the table UVC Holding GRAZ (AUT) will be hosting OK Calcit KAMNIK (SLO) and last season’s bronze medallists Union Raiffeisen WALDVIERTEL will be facing ACH Volley LJUBLJANA.
