Source: CEV. We have already shared a number of stories from players currently working on the frontlines in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. Others, such as Croatia’s national team member Fran Peterlin, are providing much needed support offering their time to charities and non-profit organisations. Peterlin, who has been a member of the Croatian national team for some nine years, shows much sportsmanship off the Volleyball court as well.
The 26-year-old outside hitter is currently supporting the action run by Caritas and the Archdiocese of Zagreb in the Croatian capital. Peterlin returned home after the outbreak of the coronavirus crisis from Slovenia, where he was playing for Salonit Anhovo KANAL for the second straight year after previous spells in Switzerland and Greece earlier in his career.
Croatia and especially Zagreb have had to deal with the hardship brought not only by the pandemic, but also by an earthquake that hit the Croatian capital back in late March. “The earthquake made us realise that we did not want to lie down at home, but to help those in need. Because of the quarantine, I do not train much, so I have a lot of free time. I am really glad that I can do something useful, if not for myself, then at least for the others,” Peterlin says.

In cooperation with the Caritas of the Archdiocese of Zagreb, Fran and his brothers distribute food packages to families who deal with the consequences of the earthquake and have to navigate through financial constraints.
“We have been transporting and delivering packages of food all over Zagreb. Of course, we respect safety measures, wear protective masks and gloves and avoid close contact. Moreover, we have delivered such packages to the Cvjetno dormitory, which houses many families who had to leave their homes after the earthquake. I was really pleased and happy to see how much these packages mean to those people, even though these were small donations from various local companies,” Peterlin continues.
Well done and well said, Fran!
In the morning of March 22, right in the middle of the global coronavirus outbreak, a 5.3 earthquake hit Zagreb, causing major damage in the Croatian capital.
