On Sunday night, Calcit Volley KAMNIK secured their third women’s MEVZA League title after they had already claimed the middle european crown back in 2014 and 2016 as well. The underdogs came back from two sets down to edge their compatriots and CEV Champions League participants Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR in a thrilling gold medal match at the Final Four tournament in Nova Gorica 3-2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-14, 25-23, 15-9).
The confident main round winners, on the other hand, missed the chance to secure their fifth MEVZA league title after those previously taken in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2015.
Calcit Volley’s Olivera Brulec Kostic topped the charts on 24 points. Maja Kosenina hammered 19 for Nova KBM Branik.
After losing against Calcit Volley in the semis, ZOK Bimal-Jedinstvo BRCKO claimed the bronze medal match, defeating hosts GEN-I Volley NOVA GORICA 3-1 (25-13, 21-15, 25-14, 27-25) earlier in the evening.
Andjelka Radiskovic was the player of the match after delivering an impressive performance that saw her finishing on a total of 27 points. Bosnia and Herzegovina’s national champions were participating in the MEVZA League for the first time this season. Therefore, it is all the more impressive that they could even secure their first medal as rookies.
