In the last men’s MEVZA League matchup before the Christmas break, OK Merkur MARIBOR celebrated a very important 3:0 (27:25, 25:21, 25:22) home win against second-placed Calcit Volley KAMNIK in a Slovenian derby on Saturday night. As a result, the hosts improved their win-loss record to 4-5, drew level with the Croatian sides Mladost ZAGREB and Mladost Ribola KASTELA and kept their chances of qualifying for the Final Four tournament alive.

“We delivered a really extraordinary performance today. My players showed a great fighting spirit even though five missed the game due to injuries. Congratulations to all of them for the victory and securing three crucial points for the standing”, Merkur MARIBOR’s head coach Sebastian Skorc was perfectly satisfied with the attitude shown by his team.
The men’s MEVZA League will resume with Mladost ZAGREB hosting OK Merkur MARIBOR on January 4, while the women’s competition is going to continue with the Slovenian derby GEN-I Volley NOVA GORICA against the confident leaders in the current table, Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR on January 11.
