Mladost ZAGREB (CRO) suffered a 1-3 (20-25, 19-25, 25-20, 21-25) home loss at the hands of Benfica LISBOA (POR) in their second-leg match of Round 3 of the men’s CEV Champions League on Wednesday evening. Previous week, Benfica had already dispatched Mladost in straight-sets. Therefore, the MEVZA League participants missed a spot in the group stage but will progress in the CEV Cup round of 16.

In the women’s CEV Champions League Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR (SLO) stood no chance against VakifBank ISTANBUL (TUR) on home soil, losing 0-3 (13-25, 17-25, 14-25) in their second game in Pool B. Already on Tuesday, NANTES VB (FRA) cruised to a 25-23, 25-22, 25-11 away sweep over Vasas Obuda BUDAPEST (HUN) in Pool D.

VK CEZ KARLOVARSKO (CZE) qualified for round 3 of the men’s CEV Challenge Cup, celebrating a 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-17, 25-15) away win against Vardar SKOPJE (MKD), while Fino KAPOSVAR (HUN) advanced after a 3-1 (25-20, 16-25, 25-22, 25-22) victory over hosts UVC Weberzeile RIED (AUT).
Union Raiffeisen WALDVIERTEL (AUT), on the other hand, went out of the competition against SCM “U” CRAIOVA (ROU), losing 0-3 (19-25, 22-25, 19-25) and a decisive Golden set 11-15. VRCK KACINCBARCIKA (HUN) ended their Challenge Cup campaign after a tight 2-3 (25-19, 27-25, 16-25, 23-25, 13-15) loss at the hands of Tokat BELEDIYE PLEVNE (TUR).

The MEVZA League is going to resume with six fixtures between November 30 and December 2. In the men’s competition Calcit Volley KAMNIK (SLO) will challenge their national rivals and leaders in the current standing ACH Volley LJUBLJANA (SLO) this coming Sunday. The defending champions are two points ahead of Calcit Volley, but have played one match more than their closest pursuers so far. Already on Saturday, OK Mladost Ribola KASTELA (CRO) and past season’s silver-medallists SK Zadruga AICH/DOB (AUT) are going to continue their fight for a spot in the Final Four tournament, while OK MARIBOR (SLO) will welcome third-placed HAOK Mladost ZAGREB (CRO) on Monday. Croatia’s national champions as well as OK Mladost Ribola and Zadruga AICH/DOB have won three matches out of six.
In the women’s MEVZA League two Slovenian sides are going to battle for supremacy in the table as well, when Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR will host Calcit Volley KAMNIK in the seventh round next Monday. Currently, both teams are topping the charts on 14 points each. With HOK KASTELA (CRO) vs. HAOK Mladost ZAGREB (CRO) and Bottom of the table UOK Banjaluka Volley BANJA LUKA (BIH) vs. ZOK Bimal-Jedinstvo BRCKO (BIH) will contest two more national derbies on Saturday and Sunday, respectively!
