Calcit Volley KAMNIK continued their winning streak in the women’s MEVZA League on Saturday evening. The competition leaders from Slovenia claimed a 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 30-32, 25-18) home win over rookies UOK Banjaluka Volley BANJA LUKA (BIH). As a result, they increased their points to twelve. Calcit Volley have won all four matches they have contested in this MEVZA League season so far. Banjaluka Volley’s Milica Sorak topped the match scorers on a total of 23 points. Katja Mihalinec hammered 20 for the winning side.

“We could see Banjaluka Volley is a strong team that has to be taken seriously with maximum respect. I am happy that after a drop in our game during the third set we were able to get back on track and finish the match in a compelling way. But of course we can play better, especially on serve and in reception”, Calcit Volley head coach Gregor Rozman was satisfied with the attitude shown by his players.

Nova KBM Branik MARIBOR secured their third win in a row, dispatching GEN-I Volley NOVA GORICA in a Slovenian derby 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, 25-17). As a result, Nova KBM Branik defended the second place in the standing three points behind leaders Calcit Volley. Lorena Lorber-Fijok (Nova KBM Branik) and Mirta Velikonja-Grbac (GEN-I Volley) top scored for their teams with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

“In the first set we did really well, but in the second one the away team made some changes, what initially posed a problem for us. Thankfully we were able to find our rhythm again and to emerge victorious from this match”, Nova KBM Branik head coach Radovan Gacic reported. Tilen Kozamernik, head coach of GEN-I Volley, acknowledged many problems in the game of his team, “which we had expected due to the massive changes we made in our squad. Despite this, we made too many mistakes in the basic elements today.”

Mladost ZAGREB (CRO) suffered a 1:3 (22:25, 25:14, 12:25, 22:25) home loss at the hands of Bimal-Jedinstvo BRCKO (BIH). “We played on a really bad level today. The opponents brought much more energy and willingness on the court. Therefore, they deserved to win”, Mladost head coach Sasa Ivanisevic was desperately disappointed. Bimal-Jedinstvo middle-blocker Ana Gajic was the player of the match after showing an impressive performance that saw her finishing on a total of 21 points, including six blocks and four aces. Bozana Butigan recorded 16 points for the hosts.
