Nova KBM Branik secured first win at Zagreb

On Sunday, Nova KBM Branik Maribor celebrated a 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 25-17) away win at Mladost Zagreb in the closing match of the second leg of the women’s MEVZA League. Karina Pavicic (Zagreb) and Anita Sobocan (Maribor) split the best scorer honours with 18 points each.

The Croatian national champions started their MEVZA League campaign with a four-set derby win over OK Kastela a week ago, while Slovenia’s dominant team for recent years suffered a disappointing 0-3 defeat at the hands of their national rivals Calcit Volley on the opening weekend. Now, Nova KBM Branik are back on track. Maribor’s head coach Radovan Gagic: “We have a new team compared to last season’s line-up. Therefore, these matches are exactly what we need to improve for the rest of the season!”

“We did not play at our usual level, because of an challenging week that is now behind us. Congratulations to Nova KBM Branik”, Mladost Zagreb head coach Sasa Ivaniseviv reported. His team had to cope with a stodgy away loss at the hands of Khimik Yuzhny in the second round of the CEV Champions League this past Tuesday. The Ukrainians secured their spot in the next round after winning in three sets and the following Golden Set as well.
