The Final Four of this year’s MEVZA men’s league will take place Friday and Saturday in Bleiburg. Two Slovenian teams will meet the two Austrian top teams from Aich/Dob and Waldviertel. A title duel between serial winner ACH Volley and defending champion Posojilnica Aich/Dob is expected.
Due to the final result of the first stage of the MEVZA League, there will be two national duels in the semi-finals: Last year’s finalist Calcit Volley Kamnik will face favourite ACH Volley Ljubljana and defending champions SK Posojilnica Aich/Dob will duel with Union Raffeisen Waldviertel. The last edition of the red-white-red duel took place last Saturday in the DenizBank AG Volley League and ended with a clear victory for the guests from Carinthia. “The teams from the most successful MEVZA nations of the last two decades have prevailed. From the point of view of the President, who is not involved in sports, the fact that we will certainly see another Austrian team in the final is of course highly gratifying,” said MEVZA President Karl Hanzl.
Tight Schedule
The two MEVZA semi-finalists from Austria will have to complete the last round of the Austrian championship tonight. While Aich/Dob in the Carinthian duel will only have one form check – the reigning champion has a lead of 17 points – the Waldviertler have to defend second place in Ried.
The MEVZA Final Four starts on Saturday with the Slovenian duel at 17:00, the second semi-final follows at 19:30. All matches will take place in the JUFA Arena in Bleiburg. Already last year the Carinthians proved that they are up to the double burden in every respect, both in sports and in organisation.
