Cancun, Mexico. The Cancun 4-star is in full progress. After the USA and Brazil teams had to decide the country spots, yesterday marked the qualification to fill the remaining main draw teams. Kubickova/Kvapilova (CZE) and Ermacora/Pristauz (AUT) were able to win all their matches and enter the top 32 teams of the tropical Mexican bubble.
After dropping the opening set Kubickova/Kvapilova were able to win the next 4 and win both qualification matches. First against another MEVZA team Dave/Starikov from Israel and another well established World Tour from Finland in the second round. Less fortunate were the Austrian sisters, Dorina and Ronja Klinger, who had a very tough draw in team from Greece with the 2x European Champion and 3x Olympian Arvaniti alongside her partner Karagkouni.
On the men’s side Ermacora/Pristauz, the second seeded team of the qualification was directly in the second round. There they faced a young and upcoming team from Spain. The Austrian M&M’s lost a tight first set, however won the next two to advance once again into the main draw.
Their countrymen Seidl/Waller played both matches against teams from Norway. While securing a 2-0 win in the first, the second Norwegian team Mol H./Berntsen took the second match and ended the first of three tournaments in Mexico for the Austrians.
