ZWETTL – Male volleyball team from Austria and host of this MEVZA tournament, Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel, won their first match of the competition.
On the second day of competition Waldviertel played against Croatian side HAOK Mladost Zagreb, and Austrians were able to win it 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-14, 25-18). Austrians took an early lead, but Mladost managed to catch up. Waldviertel was able to take the first set after couple of great points. Second set started in similar fashion, with better plays by Waldviertel, but Mladost was able to catch up and tie the score to 1-1.
Third and fourth set the Austrian team won convincingly and were able to take first points of the season. Both Mladost and Waldviertel have 3 points after two matches played.
“We didn’t play as well as in the first match. Especially on the crucial points we made mistakes. Congratulations to Waldviertel for the victory. We will improve, it’s only the beginning of the MEVZA season – hopefully we can do it in the next match”, said Ivan Zeljkovi?, player from Mladost Zagreb.
“11:0 in blocks, that says it all. The reception was much better than in the first match. We made fewer own errors and the attack from the defence was also much better. Playing MEVZA at home is simply fun. If we get another win against the champions of Slovakia, then we’ll be happy”, said Waldviertel player Jakob Reiter.
